Dust mites allergies

There are dust mites in any house or apartment. That is not due to a lack of cleanliness. Neither do the mites carry any diseases, but their excrement provokes allergies.

The 0.1 to 0.5 mm sized mites cannot be seen with the naked eye. They draw their nutrition mainly from dander and mold. They live mainly in mattresses but also  in carpet and upholstered furniture with fabric covers.

The excrement of the mites gets stirred up with the dust and thus reaches the respiratory tract, to the annoyance of those allergic to it. They react with sneezing attacks, runny noses and breathing trouble to this dust containing allergenes. Although taking medication prevents or suppresses the over-reaction, it is much more advisable to prevent and avoid the allergene-containing dust.

Mites multiply quickly in humid rooms. Therefore, air the rooms regularly, so that the humidity remains below 60 percent.

However, take care when airing within the house. If the airing is done from a heated into an unheated room, the moisture settles on the colder room walls. Thick-weave carpets or dust traps like heavy thick curtains and open bookshelves should preferably not be placed in the bedroom.

It is recommended to also dispense with potted plants with flower soil as well as air humidifiers. Here, the possibility is a danger of the formation of mold that can result in allergies. The less dust that stresses the air, the healthier is the room atmosphere. Therefore, it is also important to install radiators that are easy to clean and swirl up less dirt.
